July Meeting 2017
Saturday 15th July 2017, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
My Journey with Textiles
with Rod Owen.
Rod Owen will be visiting us to share his passion for Japanese and Peruvian textiles. Rod is an absolute expert in this field, having published a number of books, with another in the offing.
There are now some exciting additions to the July meeting programme. Firstly, Rod will be demonstrating in the morning, prior to his talk, so do come along early to see braiding in practice. Secondly, he is bringing his co-author, Terry Flynn, along to join him for the demonstration and talk. Terry hails from the USA; she creates garments and sculptures that combine her interest in weaving, Andean and Japanese braiding, and knitting. Terry discovered a love of teaching while giving classes at the Weaver’s Place, a shop she later owned from 1989–2000. During this time, she taught beginning and intermediate weaving, and garment design. Terry began studying takadai braids (flat braids made on the bias) with Rod in 1994. She collaborated with Rod on various projects, including proofing his pattern instructions and contributing some of her own to his book Making Kumihimo, Japanese Interlaced Braids (2004). Over the years, Terry has taught weaving and braiding locally, for various guilds, and at regional and international conferences.
I am sure an enthralling and fascinating day is guaranteed!
