Chair’s challenge 2017
Here are some ideas for this years chairmanship challenge; which is to create a present for someone based on the lyrics of ‘The Christmas song’ sung by Nat King Cole. Here are the lyrics;
Chestnuts roasting on an open fire
Jack Frost nipping at your nose
Yuletide carols being sung by the choir
And folks dressed up like Eskimos.
Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe
Help to make the season bright
Tiny little tots with their eyes all aglow
Will find it hard to sleep tonight.
They know that Santa’s on his way
He’s loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh
And every mother’s child is going to spy
To see if reindeer’s really know how to fly.
And so I’m offering this simple phrase
To kids from one to ninety-two
Although it’s been said many times, many ways
Merry Christmas to you.
IDEAS
1. The colours of Christmas/winter:
White – snow, ice, icing on the Christmas cake, mistletoe
Red – berries, ribbon, Father Christmas, fire & flames
Brown – chestnuts, trees, nuts & reindeer
Green – holly, Christmas trees
Yellow – fire, candles
Dark blue- night sky
Bright colours – the lyrics mention ” help to make the season bright”
2. Feelings/emotions :
What feelings & emotions does the song evoke?
What atmosphere does it create?
Remember your own childhood Christmases:
“Tiny little tots with their eyes all aglow
Will find it hard to sleep tonight.”
What toys X goodies would you like to make to put in santa’s sleigh?
3. Carols, choirs, songs, singing:
What ideas do these words & themes evoke?
What about creating a scarf with musical notes on it?
Or a bobble hat or gloves to keep the carols singers warm.
4. Use techniques learnt at have a go days.
For example, how about making a 3D knitted basket to hold sweets, soaps or nuts ?
Here are just a few ideas to get you thinking. Happy creating!
I look forward to seeing your beautiful creations at the guild Christmas party on 16th December.
