50th Anniversary
Sadly, it is highly unlikely that we will be able to celebrate the Guild’s 50th anniversary during 2021. We will have to think about celebrating our 51st anniversary, or maybe our 55th !
The Committee were keen to mark this special anniversary in some way, though, so we have commissioned Chris Cowley to dye some lovely golden fibre and we will be sending 100gms to all paid up and honorary members in the coming weeks. The Chair’s Challenge for 2021 is to use the fibre to make something lovely, and we will have a display of finished items either at our Christmas meeting, or, if we can’t meet then, very soon afterwards. You can use the 100gms however you like – or work with one or more other people to produce something together. The fibre is not only a celebration of 50 years of the Guild, the friendships made and the wonderful work produced, but also a way for the Committee to say ‘thank you’ for sticking with us during this strange year.

“A knitted cowl with yarn made from the anniversary fibre – I also used some lovely dark green yarn that I bought from an Indie dyer – it is a very punk green! It has made an interesting fabric – the bought yarn is a bit finer than my spun yarn, and I have knitted eyelet sections with it, so it makes the cowl concertina in quite a nice way, I think – in the photo it looks as though the golden sections are shaped, but they’re not, it’s knitted in the round and just straight.”
