For those of you who are new to the Guild, this is not a competition! It’s a way of sharing
your skills and talent that have been inspired by the theme of the challenge. It’s just a Show & Tell with a theme.
This year’s challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to create something inspired by the theme of Trash to Treasure. I have spent a lot of time this year decluttering at home and with my Mum. There were some surprising finds and it got me thinking about what to do with some of the things that had been discovered in cupboards and drawers.
There is only one rule for the challenge: you must use at least one of our core skills:
spinning, weaving and dyeing. Other than that, it is up to you, as long as you can link it to
the theme.
A few suggestions:
- something made from a Sales Table or De-Stash Sale purchase;
- something made from found materials, along the lines of the work created by Ellen
Moore who gave us a talk in April 2023. She used waste materials to weave; - something made from the leftovers of another project that would otherwise be
wasted; - something that symbolises a transformation from Trash to Treasure
Your creation does not need to be finished, a work in progress or an ideas board would also be fantastic! The purpose is to challenge yourself and be creative.
Your piece should be accompanied by a short note with your name and what inspired your work. It’s also good to hear about any challenges that you have encountered and how they have been overcome, or not. Maybe someone else will be able to come up with an answer.
Finally, enjoy the challenge and share your talents with everyone at the exhibition at our
meeting on 21st December. I’m looking forward to seeing where the theme of Trash to
Treasure will take you.
